GRANDPARENTS ARE SPECIAL

(PLEASE CLICK ON THE PICTURES)

Four generations: Helen Olson, Brenda Durling, Me, and my daughter Catherine

Me and some dear friends on my wedding day (I was married in the nursing home where I worked), October 23, 2004

National Grandparents day is always the first sunday after labor day

If you are one the people who has adopted a grandparent under my "Adopt a Grandparent" program, please follow these rules when visiting your grandparent:

1. Always check in at the front desk and let someone know you are there visiting your Grandparent. Find out when the best time to visit your Granparent is.

2. Please remember that the elderly are usually on strict diets, so before you bring candy or food, please check with a nurse to make sure it is safe for your Grandparent

3. You have been assigned a Grandparent that probably doesn't get many if any visitors. If you choose to adopt, please make sure you visit at least once a month.

3. If you have a female Grandparent, find out which days/times she gets her bath/shower, and offer to be the one to do her hair afterward. The nurses really appreciate the help!

4. Remember to respect the property of your Granparent. Don't ever go through their things without permission.

5. Most of all, have fun! This will be a very rewarding experience for you!

Thanks for adopting a Grandparent. The elderly are often ignored. Sometimes they are abused by their caregivers. If you suspect that someone is being abused by their caregiver, please report it by calling the Illinois elder abuse hotline at 1-866-800-1409. Thanks!

I need your help with this page!

Please email me with your pictures and stories of how your grandparents met. I will post them here for all to enjoy. If you have a website, I will link it to your picture. Thanks! I hope you will enjoy reading these personal stories. I know I will!
